About Q

In 1863, the Levet family introduced commercial viticulture to a still-young New Zealand. In the spirit of his pioneering forefathers, their great-great-grandson Jules has forged ahead creating his own wine in a relatively untapped region, the Waitaki Valley in North Otago, under the name Q Wine.

Beginning with the dream of many a wine lover to establish his own vineyard, Jules’ personal quest to create perfect pinot noirs has resulted in some extraordinary wines that he was compelled to share. The name is a nod to his other endeavours that also begin with the most enigmatic of letters, and is evocative of the vineyard’s pursuit of excellence and quality when it comes to crafting a wine that is truly unique.

The Waitaki Valley is a beautiful, remote region that has been described as having one of the most viticulturally significant soils in New Zealand, as well as one of the most extreme climates. The home of many artisanal growers, the location produces wines that elegantly express its terroir, and Q Wine continues this boutique, individual approach by hand harvesting all of its grapes and crafting each vintage with the utmost attention to detail.

The vineyard’s first grapes were planted in 2005 with a first vintage released in 2010. The vines are densely planted with low yields to produce exceptional wines with a truly distinct flavour profile.

Although still in its infancy, Q Wine can be seen in a carefully selected cluster of New Zealand’s finest restaurants, and offered for retail in several niche locations. For the unique and dedicated producer from one of the country’s most exciting new regions, this is only the beginning.
